US China Comprehensive Economic Dialogue To Restart

US and Chinese negotiators have agreed to reinstate the twice-annual meetings between both countries that are designed to resolve economic disputes.

The US-China Comprehensive Economic Dialogue was abandoned when the escalating trade war between the US and China made it difficult to continue with the forum.

However, an announcement will be made this week at the official signing of the Phase 1 deal between the two countries, leading to the resumption of high-level meetings that include the likes of US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He.

The twice-yearly meetings established during the tenure of former US President George W Bush, were known as the Strategic Economic Dialogue and offered a platform to address the variety of economic challenges facing both countries.

The meetings continued under President Obama but Trump decided to rename the forum the Comprehensive Economic Dialogue but later on abandoned them because he believed too much time was dedicated to processing without really addressing his concerns about trade with China.
